Choosing a car rental company,

If you are arriving at an airport have you have a choice of four different location types to consider:

1) The car rental company has a desk in the airport terminal. This is the most convenient option and can be subdivided.
a) complete the paperwork at the desk and you will then be given the car keys and told the location of the car
b) There will be an electronic board at the car hire companies desk with your name on it and a row number. Proceed to that row where you will find several cars all of the group type you have booked with the keys in the ignition.  Choose the car you like the look of most whether it be colour, amount of luggage space, comfort, etc. Load the car with your luggage and drive to the exit.  Hand over your voucher, driving licence and credit card and a contract will be printed and then off you go. This option is currently only available in USA and cheap-car-rental can book such car rentals in USA.

2) A representative will  meet you either after customs (with your name on a board)  or at a pre-arranged spot at the airport.  The rental agreement will be drawn up in the public area and you will then be given keys to the car and directions to it.  This arrangement is still pretty convenient but is a system used by smaller operators whose fleets average age will range from new to a little older than 1 above.

3) You will be directed to a pre-arranged spot at the airport and taken by minibus to the car hire office. This is probably advertised as the cheapest option, as it  avoids airport fees, but is the least convenient as there is more lugging of luggage, more time consuming and more queuing  ie for the minibus and then with everyone from the minibus into the next queue to complete the procedures. You will also have to find your way to a main road which is not a problem from the airport. Again the cars fleet is likely to be older than the above options.

4) You can collect your car downtown.  There is little point in this option unless you have a need to collect from downtown.
