The Azores
|
This beautiful group of islands remains to this day, an area not much visited by the British. That was because of its inaccessibility but that changes in 2005 with the start of a direct charter flight service from Gatwick. Consisting of 9 islands these islands can truly be called a lost paradise. Be one of the first to discover the attractions of the Azores, maybe visiting the islands, walking or cycling or hiring a car to tour the islands. There are many spectacular views over sandy beaches, cliffs, volcanic lakes. The general landscape is lush and volcanic activity including hot springs and, bubbling mud pools and volcanoes can be found. Agriculturally beef and dairy products are important and crops include tea, coffee, bananas, and pineapples. The Portuguese architecture is beautiful and there are several 17th and 18th century churches to be seen.
